Burial at Sea
Rhymed | Ode
A desert bathed in sunlight at the break of a new day.
Its shadows leap and then extend before they fade away,
From golden waves of sand dunes with curves both high and wide,
Carried on a sea of winds, and scattered like its tide.
And in between these sweeping shores, a single soul is seen,
A solitary dromedary, quadrupedal queen.
Her weary limbs press on shifting sands beneath her feet.
Bleary eyes and lashes blinking dust tears in the heat.
But there’s courage in her final march as seen upon her face,
There’s pride without its vanity, a stoic, endless grace.
And when she stops; when she decides, that this is where it ends,
Her spirit gathers with the earth’s to greet departed friends.
